Cat Tales ~ Green Excesses

Mommy has a green thumb. She loves flowers and trees and all things growing in the dirt.
Mommy said she wanted to  make the new place look bee-utiful. A place that when people who stop to look at the old house say, "WoW! Look at those flowers. And at this altitude!"

{{Mommy said that the people who stop in the street or on the sidewalk out in front of the house are taking pictures of the house because it is old and pretty. Me disagrees. Those people are taking pictures of ME! cause Me is so handsome and Me likes to sit in the front window to show off Me's fantastic good-looks}}

Back to Mommy and her thumb. Mommy ordered seeds to plant to make her garden pretty. But she didn't want to plant the seeds in the ground. She wanted to plant the seeds in the house. Really???  I know those Doggies are pigs but Me didn't think the floor was that dirty!

Mommy got a mini-greenhouse - that's what Mommy called it. Me told her that it wasn't very green but she pointed out that the shelves and supports were green. And soon, Mommy said, there would be green in the trays and trays and trays and trays of dirt sitting in the greenhouse.

Well, Mommy wasn't wrong. There are trays and trays and trays and trays of green everywhere in the house. Mommy said that as soon as the weather breaks, she would be planting the green outside.

Now, how do you break the weather???

Cat Tales ~ Vote ME!

Me over heard Mommy & Daddy talking about the 'new face' of money. Me wondered what theys was talking about, so when Mommy & Daddy were gone over the weekend, Me got on Mommy's 'puter & did some research.

Seems there's no women on U.S. currency. And there's a movement to get a woman's face on the $20 bill. There's a preliminary vote now to narrow the field. After that will be the final vote. Mommy & Daddy are hoping that Wilma Mankiller is chosen. Wilma was the first woman to be Chief of the Cherokee tribe. Daddy is Cherokee so Me is hoping she wins. Plus it would be good to see Andrew Jackson, who was guilty of BAD, BAD behavior towards the Native Indians of the U.S., replaced by a Native Indian Woman! {{snicker!}}

Now, Me was thinking. There should be a Cat on a piece of money. After all, that's who really runs the show! The Power on the Lap, Me calls it. And Me can be the first! See how good Me looks on the $1000 bill?

I had to enlist the help of Sylvester to get that image. Sylvester has thumbs and can do all sorts of fancy stuff on the 'puter. 

Me thinks Me will write a few posts about the Power on the Lap of some famous peoples. Might prove enlightening.

Cat Tales ~ Mes Wild Guess

Mommy read Me all the Wild A$$ Guesses that were made by everyone about the odd pictures found on the TrailCam. I would like to address those guesses before Me reveals Mes deduction.

Miss Debra - Me wishes it was Mes up there in the mountains 'cause Mommy said the birds are quite abundant and friendly. But alas it is not Mes tail in front of the camera. Me will have to wait to make friends with all the little birdys. 

Mrs. Dog's Mommy - While Me thinks that Abby made a very good guess, Me thinks only part of her answer is correct. Mommy said that the squirrels are somewhat scarce when there is Peoples at the Cabin. But the chipmunks on the other hand are thick as fleas! Hhhmmm...... Me wonders if a Chippy would like a new friend....

Miss Robin - Yes, me was under the same assumption when Me first saw that photo! Me thought it might be E.T. flashing a peace sign.

But after much research, Me discovered this is what an E.T. would look like in the camera lens

Miss Justine - Me believes you have guessed correctly. The last mystery photo is the give-away. It looks like feathers on the left side of the photo.

Cat Tales ~ Meowie Wowie!

That's not Mes! That's Mes young doppelganger who's in charge of Quality Control. And Mommy in back trimming the Bud

Over the summer, Mommy would harvest Catnip grown in her Youngest's garden. This was some pretty AwEsOmE stuff! Me named it Meowie Wowie! Mommy took a cutting from the last batch she got before the snow flew and cloned it. Meowzahs!

This clone is now growing on the kitchen window sill. Mommy said that she will clone more when the parent gets big enough to take cuttings. Mommy is then going to plant the clones once they are big enough in the Fairy Grove at Whyspering Woodes. Mommy said that Me can become a 'NIP Grower. And Me isn't even limited on how many plants Me can grow! Meowzahs!

Mommy said that she has found Catnip growing wild in many of the Nature Parks around the area. Me can't help but wonder if that explains why there are so many large wild cats seen in the area. Does Catnip affect Mountain Lions, Bobcats, and Lynx? Something for Me to delve into.....

Cat Tales ~ The Scoop on "Bud"

As many of you faithful readers know, Me loves Me 'Nip! 

Me loves to eat it, roll in it, and huff the plant's fragrant aroma. 

Catnip is known by many names - Catmint, Catnip, Cat's Heals All, Cat's Wort to list just a few. There are over 250 species of catnip plant which is in the mint family. But only good ol' fashioned Catnip, Nepeta Cataria, appeals to Cats. And yes, Catnip is a relative of the cannabis plant. But Kittys should never have cannabis! 

It is the oil, Nepetalactone, that causes odd behavior in Kittys. Or rather sniffing the aroma of the oil that causes Kittys to act funny, strange or mean. In fact, a Kitty can smell 1 part Nepetalactone to a billion parts air! Meowzahs! It is thought by mens of science that the aroma of the oil Nepetalactone mimics cat pheromones. Eating catnip actually allows Us Kittys to release more aroma from the leaves. And Wes get Our greens that way too. 

Catnip Love is hereditary. If a Cat doesn't come from a family of Catnip Lovers then He can't learn to like it. 

But always remember moderation when partaking of any 'green' recreational bud.

Cat Tales ~ Cat's Best Friends

Since Mommy is busy taking care of Daddy, Mommy has ask Me to take care of the blog for her. 

Blogging is so easy now with her new swipey screen 'puter. Me loves it! Just don't tell Mommy Me has been looking at Catnip sites! Of course, it is merely for research purposes....
Anymews....on to today's topic. Cat's Best Friends.

Me read an article that said Cats are the World's most popular pet. (Of Course! Me thought that was obvious!) The article also said that although Cats took to living with Humans as far back as 9,000 years ago, Cats have remained fairly wild. We Cats still retain many of the same traits that are possessed by our wild cousins. While Dog have evolved into a tail-wagging, slobbering mess that is highly dependent on Humans for their survival. 
Cats learned Humans could give a lot for just a little in return (a warm bed in the winter, food scraps, and a cuddle when so needed in exchange for rodent catching - considered a sport by many.)
Now Who tamed Who?

Cat Tales ~ Book Recommendation

Since Daddy has been home, Me and Daddy have been watching a lot of tv. We try to watch a lot of educational shows like - Family Feud, Price is Right, Jeopardy. But one of Our fav shows is Big Bang Theory. Me likes Penny. Me would lay on her lap any day! Meowzahs!

Me & Daddy watch the morning news shows too. A few days ago Me saw a story about a Cat named Yoda. The book, Yoda: the story of a Cat and His Kittens, tells the tale of a rescue cat adopted by the purrfectly lovely Beth Stern and how the kittens she fosters helped save his life. 

Me knew how special Us Kittys really are! The vet doc has said that Daddy is healing quite rapidly. Daddy's already starting to put weight on his leg and Daddy plans on being able to walk with a cane in a very short time.

Daddy is home and resting. Me has Mes warm lap back. Daddy said that Mes purring is helping with the healing. Me always knew Me was special!

This is what Daddy's leg looks like now. Looks to Me as if Daddy is now Bionic! He really will need that Super Heroes cape! Maybe Mommy will make Me one.....

Daddy got hurt yesterday. Mommy said he is at the vet doctor place. He has to stay there for a little while. Mommy is very sad and Me and the other Kittys don't like seeing her like that. Me tried to offer her a bit O'Nip but Mommy said she didn't feel like it. Please send warm healing thoughts to make Daddy better. Me misses his warm lap.

Cat Tales ~ Kitty Expressways

Me has heard Mommy & Daddy talking about the building plans for the New Home. Me decided to add Mes 2 scoops worth.
First, Me told Daddy We Kittys needed a Catwalk like the one below.

Me even told Daddy he didn't have to make it, there is a company that builds & sells them. LINK
Daddy said he would 'think about it'. Me knows what that means!
Mommy said that the Cabin wouldn't be big enough for something like that so Mommy showed Me another picture of a Catwalk.

Mommy said that this Catwalk is more like what she had in mind for Us Kittys. Mommy pointed out how comfy the Kitty in the pic is. (I think Mommy just said that cause the Kitty in the picture looks like Mes)
Then Me heard Daddy & Mommy talk about making an 'Expressway' between the Cabin and the Tipi. So We Kittys could get to the Tipi in the Winter to catch Vermin. (There Mommy goes again talking about Vermin!)
Something like this, only it would be on the ground -

Daddy liked the idea. And He said he would be sure to include windows in the Expressway. Mommy said that Daddy needed to include access panels so Mommy could clean up the Kitty Urp. She didn't want a Hairball to prevent one of Us Kittys from "doing our job" as Vermin Catchers. Mommy must've had a little Nip in her coffee this morning!

Cat Tales ~ New Trick

Whoever said an Old Dog Human can't learn a new trick or two was wrong!

And Me can prove it!

But let Me start at the beginning...

Mommy's big 'puter recently stopped computing. Mommy was bummed. So Daddy got her a new one. This one is different from the old one. It has a fancy window that let's a person use their paw hand to control the pictures shown. It also has a different sort of brain - more 'advanced' said Mommy. But Mommy has been muttering a lot under her breathe when she uses it. Mommy said it would take her some time to get used to it and Daddy has been teasing her about 'Old Dogs and New Tricks'. That's usually when Mommy throws something at Daddy and Daddy walks away laughing.

Well, that got Me thinking. Could Me possibly teach an old dog or human a new trick or two? So when Mommy was busy, Me got on the new 'puter and did some research about teaching 'new tricks'.  And then Me put into action what Me learned.

First Me squalled to go outside. Then Me jumped up on the shelf by the front door and pushed the big white button. A bell sounded inside and Mommy came to the door. Mommy was so surprised that Me was there. Mommy let me in,exclaiming what a Smart Kitty I was. Me rubbed against Mommy's leg and purred real loud.

A little while later, after Me's nap, Me squalled at the door to go out. Mommy let Me out. After Me took another nap in a nice Sun Puddle, Me jumped up on the shelf and pushed the big white button that makes the bell ring inside. Mommy came to the door once again. Mommy told Me how Cute Me is and how Smart Me is. Me rubbed against Mommy's leg.
So, after Me got a bite to eat and used the litter box, Me squalled once more to go out. Mommy muttered something about needing to hire a doorman as she walked to the door. After Me had inspected the perimeter of the yard, Me once again pushed the big white bell button. This time when Mommy opened the door, she was muttering. Mommy must've been working on the new 'puter.....

Me has managed to teach Mommy to come to the door when me wants in. Me reinforced this new training with ample leg rubs and flashing Mes cute eyes. So take heart all you Kitties out there! It is possible to train your Human, no matter the age!

And on a side note.......Me found the new 'puter quite easy to use. Me just used Mes paw, and even Mes tail, to make the 'puter compute. Me doesn't see why Mommy has a problem...

Cat Tales ~ REALLY?

*** This is a reprint of a Guest post Gomez wrote for my other blog, Embracing the Elements. Gomez always has something to say... ***

Mommy has been talking to Us Kitties about the changes that will happen next year. She said Wes are going to move back to the country (well, actually she said to the mountains but that's like the country in my book!) but we weren't going to be living in a conventional house. She said that Wes going to lives in something called a TIPI. Then Mommy showed Mes this picture.

Mommy said that the tipi Wes would be living in would be much, much larger than this. Mes wondering why Me can't have Mes own Tipi....

She said that there would be a wood stove in  the winter to curl up next to. And sunny rocks to bask on in the summer sun. And Catnip growing in the Aspen Grove. 

Sounded like Heaven to Me until Mommy said that We would have a job to do. REALLY?

Me? A job? Me thought Mes job was to curl up next to the wood stove and soak up the heat or to bask in the sun or to monitor the growth of the Catnip.

Mommy said that We Kitties would have to catch the Vermin that would sneak into the Tipi. REALLY?

Me catch bugs and mice? REALLY? 

Does Mommy not realize that Me cannot catch "Vermin"? That is a project for the younger Kitties. Mes job is to SUPERVISE the catching of the Vermin! 

Me thinks Me needs to have a talk with Mommy!
