Colorado Rockies ~ Pike Nat'l Forest

Hubby and I have been trying to get away to the mountains every few weeks. We have seen many a beautiful vista. And I would like to share some of this scenery with you. Over the next few weeks I'll post about some of the areas we've visited.

One of our first trips was to an area where we once lived - Bailey, Colorado. Our house was located in a small community adjacent to the Pike National Forest at an elevation of 9000ft. I remember one year that we had a snowfall every single month!

Vista we used to see on our way home
We drove up into the National Forest (fondly called The National by all the locals).
And soaked up the beauty which surrounded us.

A trip to the Bailey area wasn't complete without stopping to eat at one of our old favorite eateries - Hog Heaven Pit Bar-B-Q. They have the bestest bar-b-q meats! Smoked & cooked right there on site. I can remember when Rod the owner started out in an old train caboose. (Rod's father was a Tuskegee Airman.)

Ya gotta love any restaurant called Hog Heaven. Now excuse me, I must go back and wash my hands. "As God is my witness, I swear I'll never be dirty again!"
