Weird Wednesday ~ That "Gut Feeling"....

You are what you eat.
This phrase may hold more truth than you realize!
Studies have now shown that the bacteria and microbes present in the digestive system can influence the brain and its function. Different species of bacteria influence the brain in different ways - causing anxiety, aggression, shyness, or passivity (to name a few of the emotions influenced). Altering what is eaten, introducing probiotics or taking antibiotics can change behaviors and/or emotions.
Scientists are still studying how the microbes and the brain communicate but they believe the vagus nerve, which runs from the brain to the abdomen, as the route of communication.

  1. That's interesting. Speaking of probiotics - when I spent a whole month trying student teaching (for my third time) I would eat the same yogurt based meal for lunch that I ate at breakfast - seemed right to me.

While I loved working with kids, and am a great one on one tutor, I found working in the education system profoundly exhausting and anxiety producing.

  2. I've read a little bit about these new theories and find these ideas fascinating! If true, it would explain a lot about our certain diseases and our modern life. Love this little video -- cute animation! And a great summary of ideas.
